The Top 5 Ice Cream Spots in South Central PA 🍦

Summer means one thing for us: chasing down the top 5 ice cream spots in South Central PA. We’ve hit up farm stands, drive-ins, and old-school parlors all across Cumberland Valley and the Harrisburg area this season, and honestly? We’re hungie for more already.

So we did what we do best, ate our way through the region and narrowed it down to our five favorite ice cream stops right now. These aren’t ranked best to “meh,” they’re all winners in our book, just five completely different vibes for five completely different cravings. Let’s get into it.

1. Kristy’s Whistle Stop – Enola, PA

If you want that classic, old-school summer night feeling, Kristy’s is it. This seasonal, family-owned spot has been a fixture in Enola for years, and it’s exactly the kind of hole-in-the-wall gem we live for!  50s drive-in vibes, a shaded patio, and portions that make you question whether you ordered the right size.

They’ve got both soft serve and hand-dipped, plus a lineup of sundae combos with names like the Fat Mama (our personal fav), the Train Wreck, and Porky Pig. Pair your cone with fresh-cut fries or a black angus burger from the kitchen and you’ve basically got the perfect summer evening. Fair warning: it’s busy basically every night it’s open, so budget some time to find parking.

2. Massey’s Frozen Custard – Carlisle, PA

A Carlisle staple since 1949, Massey’s is proof that some things just don’t need to change. Made fresh on-site with PA Preferred milk, their frozen custard (both soft and hand-dipped) is rich, thick, and exactly what you want on a hot day.

The flavor list rotates constantly, so you never really know what you’re walking into!  Banana, salted caramel cheesecake, German chocolate cake, you name it. Their milkshakes are legendary around here too. Small spot, small indoor space, but the outdoor seating and the nostalgia make up for it tenfold.

📍 600 W High St, Carlisle, PA

3. 3B Ice Cream – Multiple Locations

3B has become a Harrisburg-area institution, and once you’ve had a cone from one of their four locations (Derry St, Colonial Rd, Dauphin, and Duncannon), you get it. Massive portions, reasonable prices, and a wide variety of flavors.

This is the kind of place that turns into a full-blown childhood memory for a lot of local families, grandparents bringing grandkids, the same story every summer. Seasonal and open mid-March through mid-November, so get your fix while you can.

4. Destiny Dairy Bar – Carlisle, PA

Okay, this one’s not just ice cream, it’s an experience. Destiny Dairy Bar sits right on a working, fourth-generation dairy farm in the Cumberland Valley, and you can genuinely watch where your dessert comes from. Feed a calf, say hi to the goats and pigs, then head over to the scoop shop for some of the creamiest, farm-fresh ice cream around, made with A2 milk (which some find easier to digest) from their own herd.

Try the Salty Heifer (salted caramel ice cream in cold brew) or the Goat Boat, their spin on a banana split. It’s part petting zoo, part dessert stop, part slow-down-and-breathe kind of afternoon, exactly our kind of hidden gem.

5. Faye’s Ice Cream Parlor – New Cumberland, PA

Faye’s brings the full retro diner fantasy to life!  Think 50s decor, a jukebox, and vintage memorabilia lining the walls in the heart of downtown New Cumberland. It’s hand-dipped and soft serve, plus sundaes, milkshakes, and floats that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a different decade (in the best way).

Flavors rotate and get creative.  Think mint chocolate chip next to something like a Fat Elvis (banana, peanut butter, honey). It’s cozy, it’s colorful, and it’s an easy stop if you’re already out enjoying downtown New Cumberland.

The shop was acquired by lifelong best friends Dustin LeBlanc and Duke Slifko. The new parlor opened in March 2025 and has already become a local favorite.

The pair renamed the shop “Faye’s Ice Cream Parlor” in honor of Dustin’s mother, Faye who hailed from the 1950s in Brighton Beach, NY which explains the retro theme

Our Final Scoop

Five spots, five totally different reasons to love them, old-school drive-in charm, farm-to-cone freshness, retro diner nostalgia, and everything in between. South Central PA might not always get the credit it deserves, but when it comes to ice cream, we’ll put our region up against anywhere.
