September Travel Roundup: Food, Views & Hidden Gems

September has been all about chasing good food, beautiful views, and unexpected discoveries. From an unforgettable Philly-style hoagie in Perry County to a breathtaking waterfall in New York and even a sunflower field straight out of a dream, this month’s adventures gave us plenty to write home about. Here’s the full roundup of where we went and why you’ll want to add these spots to your own travel list.

A Philly Favorite in Perry County: Momma Pat’s Little Taste of Philly Grill

When it comes to hoagies, we’ll admit—We’re picky. One of us grew up in New Jersey, so that set the bar high, and finding the real deal in Central PA isn’t always easy. But after finally visiting Momma Pat’s A Little Taste of Philly Grill in Duncannon, We can say without hesitation: this place is the truth.

The service was warm, the food was spot-on, and they even hold a Harrisburg Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for Comfort Food. After one visit, it’s clear why.

What we tried:

Maple Waffle Fries – Crispy, sweet, savory, and finished with powdered sugar. Imagine funnel cake meets French fries.

South Philly Cheesesteak – Thinly chopped steak, grilled onions, and whiz, all on the perfect roll. Believe the hype.

The Six Meat Italian Hoagie – Ham, salami, pepperoni, hot capicola, provolone, oil, vinegar, and hot peppers. Every bite had us saying WOW.

Verdict? Momma Pat’s is a must-stop for anyone craving a true Philly experience without leaving Perry County.

Momma Pat’s is open Thursday Thru Sunday, 11a-7p

Just outside Ithaca, Taughannock Falls steals the show with a 215-foot drop—making it taller than Niagara Falls. It’s one of those places where photos barely do it justice, whether you’re standing at the overlook or walking the gorge trail.

This park is ideal for all ages, with easy, flat trails and plenty of space to explore. Add in the access to Cayuga Lake for swimming and kayaking, and picnic areas, and you’ve got a perfect outdoor escape.

Few things feel more like late summer than wandering through a sunflower field—and Lesher’s Sunflower Field in Chambersburg, PA delivers on that magic. At over 200 acres, it’s one of the largest sunflower fields in the region, and what makes it special is that the location changes slightly each year. That means every visit feels like a brand-new adventure.

Sweet Escape: Lindt Chocolate Factory Outlet in Carlisle

Our last September stop brought us to the Lindt Chocolate Factory Outlet in Carlisle—and let me tell you, it’s every chocolate lover’s dream. The selection is unbelievable, from classic truffles to limited-edition flavors and factory-exclusive deals that will tempt you to stock up.

The best part? It’s not just about shopping. Pair your visit with a walk through historic downtown Carlisle. With its mix of small-town charm, local eats, and rich history, it makes the perfect add-on to your sweet stop.
