The Travelers Guide: Top Spots in New York’s Finger Lakes Region

The Finger Lakes isn’t just a destination—it’s a full-on sensory adventure. From rolling vineyards and craft breweries to breathtaking waterfalls and unbeatable local eats, there’s something for every type of traveler. We’ve spent days exploring the nooks and crannies of this stunning region, tasting our way through wineries, hopping on hikes, and discovering the hidden gems that make the Finger Lakes truly unforgettable. Whether you’re a foodie, a wine lover, or just looking for a scenic escape, this guide will take you to the best spots we found along the way.

Best Winery

It’s nearly impossible to choose just one winery in the Finger Lakes—there are simply too many good ones. So instead of narrowing it down, we’re sharing both, because there’s no way we could leave either off the list!

Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

Perched on Keuka Lake, Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery isn’t just beautiful—it’s historic. This is where European grapes first thrived in New York, thanks to Dr. Frank’s pioneering work, and today it remains one of the most iconic stops in the Finger Lakes.

We stopped by on a sunny afternoon and were instantly taken by both the wines and the views. One standout for us was the Gewürztraminer. Gewürztraminer is aromatic and fruit-forward, with notes of lychee, apricot, melon, and rose petals balanced by hints of spice and bright acidity. Smooth and expressive, it pairs beautifully with spicy dishes, creamy cheeses, seafood, or light fruit desserts. We particularly like to have this with Thai takeout.

Pro tip: arrive early to avoid crowds and catch the vineyard glowing in the morning light. Whether you sip in Eugenia’s Garden or dive into a guided tasting, you’ll leave knowing this isn’t just another winery—it’s the winery to experience in the Finger Lakes.

Three Brothers Wineries & Estates

If you’re a wine, cider, or craft beer lover, Three Brothers Wineries & Estates is an absolute must-visit in the Finger Lakes. Think of it as an adult playground—there’s a little something for everyone, from dry and sweet wines to creative ciders and a lively brewery.

When you arrive, the first thing that catches your eye is the Slushie hut, where you can grab a refreshing wine Slushie to kick off your tasting adventure. Once you’ve got your drink in hand, pick up a Single Tasting Pass ($40), which covers all three wineries and War Horse Brewing Co. You can explore in any order, but here’s our favorite route.

Start at Stony Lonesome Wine Cellars, known for their dry and semi-dry wines. Even if these aren’t your go-to styles, they’re well-crafted and worth tasting. From there, head to Bagg Dare Winery, our personal favorite. With its rustic, old-time gas station vibe, it’s the perfect place to indulge in a wide selection of sweet wines that are as fun as they are delicious.

Next up is War Horse Brewing Co., a lively spot decked out in WWII-inspired décor. They offer everything from lagers and IPAs to rich stouts. We couldn’t choose between the Royal Kilt Inspector Scotch Ale and the Breakfast with Churchill Oatmeal Coffee Stout—both are incredible. Don’t miss their Bombshell Hard Ciders, featuring retro 1950s pinup-style cans, some of the best ciders we’ve ever tasted.

Finally, wrap up your tasting adventure at Passion Feet Wine Barn, a one-stop shop for both sweet and dry wines. After sampling, you can take home your favorites or grab some merch—we’re already fans of their shirts!

Whether you’re a Finger Lakes local or just visiting, Three Brothers offers a full day of sipping, exploring, and enjoying the best the region has to offer.

Best Eats

Seneca Farms — Penn Yan, NY

A Finger Lakes staple since the 1950s, Seneca Farms is famous for their crispy fried chicken. We got a recommendation to come here from our Stomping Good Times’ Driver Bonnie to try the chicken. We were not disappointed! This place is located just outside Penn Yan on Keuka Lake, it’s the perfect casual stop after a day of wineries or lake adventures.

This place has an old school vibe that has locals and tourists lining up all season long (March–October). Yes, the lines get long on summer evenings, but they move fast—and the food is worth the wait. Whether you’re craving comfort food, a creamy sundae, or both, Seneca Farms captures the simple, delicious spirit of the Finger Lakes.

Best Hikes

Taughannock Falls State Park

Just north of Ithaca, NY, is home to the stunning 215-foot Taughannock Falls—taller than Niagara and a must-see in the Finger Lakes.

We recommend the Gorge Trail (0.75 miles) as it is a relatively flat/easy trail that takes you up close to the falls. Don’t miss the overlook at the end of Taughannock Park Road for panoramic shots.

Arrive early to avoid crowds, note the $9 parking fee, and remember to stay on designated trails. Spring brings lush greenery, summer showcases full flow, and fall highlights vibrant foliage—making any season perfect for a visit. For directions and more information please click on the link below.

Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen State Park is one of New York’s most magical hikes, and you don’t need to climb the 832 steps of Jacob’s Ladder to see its crown jewel, Rainbow Falls. Starting from the Upper Entrance lets you descend into the gorge, wander under mossy stone bridges, and take in waterfalls at nearly every turn—all without the exhausting climb.

The trail is just over a mile and a half but delivers everything Watkins Glen is known for: cool misty breezes, fairytale rock walls, and photo ops around every corner. Arrive early to beat the crowds, wear sturdy shoes for the damp stone paths, and plan for a small parking fee at the kiosk.

It’s pure Finger Lakes magic—an unforgettable hike that belongs on your bucket list. Check out our Instagram video for more footage! For directions and more information please click on the link below.
